When we are persuading others to our opinion on an issue we use language in a particular way to ensure we achieve our PURPOSE which is to convince our AUDIENCE that our viewpoint is the right one! We can do it through speaking or through the Media. For example a range of types of Newspaper Articles, cartoons and radio. Part of our study this year analysing the Persuasive Language used in the media. We beginning this journey with newspapers.
There are3 things to keep in mind when reading an article expressing a viewpoint:
What is the main point of the article (Contention- The main viewpoint the author is discussing.)
How is Language being used - the tone, style; emotive how does it make you feel.
How does the language position the reader - do they influence you to accept or reject the readers viewpoint?
